JEPLAN, INC. (Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer: Masaki Takao, hereinafter referred to as “JEPLAN”), its group company PET REFINE TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD., (President & Chief Executive Officer, Daigo Iga, hereinafter “PET REFINE TECHNOLOGY”) and Asahi Soft Drinks Co., Ltd. (President: Yoneme Taichi; hereinafter “Asahi Soft Drinks") have achieved a technological breakthrough in chemical recycling. This innovation produces recycled PET resin using only used PET bottles as feedstocks, without petroleum-derived feedstocks, contributing to the realization of a circular economy.

Recycled PET bottles made using recycled PET resin produced with this technology will be partially adopted in Asahi Soft Drinks' "CALPIS SODA 1.5L" starting this month and offered on a test basis for the time being. Going forward, we will continue technology development with the aim of achieving commercialization in 2029.

The JEPLAN Group utilizes proprietary PET chemical recycling technology to break down used PET bottles to the molecular level and remove impurities to produce HELIX, a recycled PET resin with the same quality as petroleum-based products. In the past, this chemical recycling process used some petroleum-derived feedstocks in the production of PET resin, but this technological innovation has made it possible to produce high-quality PET resin using only used PET bottles as feedstocks, without using petroleum-derived feedstocks. With this, we are making great strides toward the realization of a recycling-oriented society.

Asahi Soft Drinks has set a goal of using recycled or plant-derived PET bottles for all PET bottles by 2030 in order to address environmental issues such as plastic resource recycling and the marine plastic problem. The three companies will continue to promote further use of HELIX and work on technological innovation to realize Asahi Soft Drinks' goal of “a society where PET bottles continue to circulate”.

The JEPLAN Group will continue to promote collaboration with partners in Japan and overseas to realize its mission of “We circulate our world”, and the entire group will work together to drive the circular economy.

About “HELIX™” (URL: https://helix.pet)
HELIX is a recycled material produced mainly from used PET bottles using proprietary PET chemical recycling technology, which breaks down PET to the molecular level and removes impurities to achieve the same quality as petroleum-based PET resin. Therefore, it can be used for applications that require high quality standards, such as beverage PET bottles and cosmetic containers. HELIX also contributes to the reduction of environmental impact by reducing CO₂ emissions*1compared to petroleum-derived manufacturing processes.
“HELIX” means “spiral” in English, and symbolizes the continuous circulation of the material like a spiral.

On the "HELIX" brand website, we are now showcasing use cases of our materials, including the newly adopted "CALPIS SODA 1.5L," as well as applications in PET bottles and cosmetic containers. (https://helix.pet/blogs/case-study)
