The recycled material “HELIX”, developed by the JEPLAN Group, has been adopted since 2022 as a raw material for cosmetic plastic bottles by KOSÉ, which is actively promoting initiatives to advance resource circulation and reduce environmental impact.
Under its philosophy of “Beautiful Wisdom for People and the Earth”, KOSÉ positions sustainability as a key management priority and promotes environmentally conscious manufacturing across its value chain—from raw material procurement and product design to containers and packaging.
As part of these efforts, HELIX is currently used in the packaging of multiple cosmetic brands, including SEKKISEI BLUE and Prédia BLUE, contributing to enhanced resource circulation and reduced environmental impact.
The recycled material HELIX used in cosmetic containers is produced using the JEPLAN Group’s proprietary PET chemical recycling technology. This technology chemically depolymerizes used PET bottles and other PET products to the molecular level, removing impurities such as pigments and metals.
As a result, HELIX achieves quality equivalent to petroleum-derived PET resin and can therefore be used in a wide range of applications requiring high quality standards, including PET bottles and cosmetic containers.
Going forward, the JEPLAN Group will continue to advance collaboration with partners in Japan and abroad in pursuit of its mission to “We circulate our world” and, as a unified group, will strive to lead the circular economy.
■ Overview of “HELIX™” (URL: https://helix.pet )
HELIX is a recycled material manufactured primarily from used PET bottles and other PET products using proprietary PET chemical recycling technology. By depolymerizing PET to the molecular level and removing impurities and colorants, HELIX achieves quality equivalent to petroleum-derived PET resin.
This enables its use in applications requiring stringent quality standards, such as beverage PET bottles and cosmetic containers. In addition, compared with petroleum-based production processes, HELIX contributes to the reduction of CO₂ emissions*1, thereby helping to reduce environmental impact.
The name “HELIX” means “spiral” in English, symbolizing continuous circulation over and over again, like a helix.
